Womens soccer team improves season record
Jess Williams
The womens soccer team is setting a high goal for itself this year: to improve upon last year's performance, even after losing nine of its seniors and gaining an even larger group of young players, senior captain Kristin Matthews said.
The varsity team has had two winning games with the same score, 2-0.
"Because of the lack of upperclassmen this year, there are no expectations or standards to hold themselves to," Matthews said. "ThereÕs so much room to shine."
She said she went into the season feeling skeptical about the number of younger players, but her doubts were unfounded.
"Everyone's just so amazed at the way everyoneÕs playing so incredibly," Matthews said. "Even our opponents have begun complimenting us."
Junior Lauren Terakedis scored this season's four goals.
"We've been practicing a lot with forwards," she said. "So the goals just came."
Terakedis also said she really didn't know what to expect this season.
"We are a young team," she said, "but we have a lot of potential."
