Humor and storyline help popular TV show remain relevant over the years

The popular’90s TV show Friends became available on Netflix in January of 2015. Friends first aired in 1994 and was such a hit that it had new episodes until 2004. The show has 10 seasons and each episode is approximately 22 minutes in length. Friends is seen as one of the greatest sitcoms of all time and is the fifth most watched series finale in television history. The show has won numerous awards, such as the Primetime Emmy and People’s Choice Award for Favorite Network TV Comedy, and has a large fan base due to the great storylines and funny characters throughout the series.

The first episode starts off when one of the main characters, Rachel Green, leaves her fiance at the altar and comes running to her high school best friend Monica Geller’s apartment in New York city where all of Monica’s friends are, as well as her older brother Ross Geller. Rachel has to learn to become independent from her family while living with Monica and does so by getting her first job at Central Perk, which is the stopping ground for the circle of friends.

The six friends in the show are Rachel Green (Jennifer Aniston), Monica Geller (Courteney Cox), Phoebe Buffay (Lisa Kudrow), Ross Geller (David Schwimmer), Chandler Bing (Matthew Perry), and Joey Tribbiani (Matt LeBlanc). Monica Geller is a restaurant chef and her older brother, Ross Geller, is a paleontologist. Across the hall from Monica and Rachel their friends Chandler Bing and Joey Tribbiani live. Chandler is a statistical analysis who brings a lot of sarcasm and witty comebacks to the show. On the other hand Joey is a struggling actor who isn’t very bright. Their other friend Phoebe Buffay is a masseuse who likes to bring up funny stories from her past. Lastly Rachel Green is the high school best friend of Monica who begins working at Central Perk and later finds a job in the fashion industry.

Throughout the series the episodes revolve around the romantic and comedic adventures of the friends and their career struggles. The show is full of humor from the characters that differ so much from one another and are guaranteed to make you laugh. Even though Friends is an older show, it is worth watching because of the great characters and humorous story lines.
