On Sept. 16, the new iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 plus were released in stores. The new models come in jet black, black, silver, gold and rose gold, and the price for the base model is 649 dollars. These phones feature a better camera, faster processing speed and more storage options along with water resistant qualities. Senior Anna Schildmeyer recently purchased a new iPhone 7
Schildmeyer said, “I really like the quality of the new camera and the speed is noticeably better. It’s also nice having so much storage.”
One feature that has caused debate among iPhone users is Apple’s decision to get rid of a headphone jack for this model. Consumers who purchase the new iPhone are given a pair of headphones and an adapter that they can attach to their phone charger if the wish to use traditional headphones.
Schildmeyer said, “I dislike the iPhone’s lack of of a headphone jack, but it isn’t terrible because it comes with an adapter.
Apple is also releasing wireless headphones that come separately from the new phones. The “AirPods” will come out in October and will be priced at 159 dollars. These wireless headphones have five hours of battery life and charge in a case that provides 24 hours of battery life.
The new iPhones also feature a software update. iOS 10 includes a brand new messages app with new graphic qualities and options. It also contains newly redesigned Photos and Maps apps.
“I used to have iOS 8, so it was a jump to switch to iOS 10. I wasn’t sure if I’d like it, but the features have grown on me, especially the new messages app,” Schildmeyer said.
Overall, the feedback for the new Iphones from consumers has been positive.
“The iPhone 7 is better in general and has convenient features like 128/256 GB storage and water resistance that old iPhones lack. Apple did a good job of stepping up their features to compete with other brands,” Schildmeyer said.
