Freshmen set to consider future possibilities

Freshmen will attend career day Focus on Your Future on Nov. 14 this year, as administration has made known through morning announcements and a Schoology post. Freshmen will begin the day at UAHS for a keynote presentation, travel to Columbus State Community College for the majority of the day and return to the school in the afternoon.

According to an organizer of Focus on Your Future, Jean Hunt, the day has started with a local successful business person speaking to students about his or her career path since its inception; thus, Matt Backiewicz, Vice President of Business Development at recruiting agency Dawson will do so this year.

At Columbus State, freshmen will experience three roundtable sessions on specific career paths that interest them. They selected their preferred career paths online but were not guaranteed all of their selections due to the available space in each one.

Hunt urged freshmen in an online video to reflect upon their goals and motivators before choosing their sessions. “Think about… what would inspire you. What are those career interests you have, not just the career interests your friends have?… What is it that you find exciting? What areas do you want to find out more about?” she said.

Hunt also said that, based off of previous surveys, students have responded positively to the experience. She anticipates that the high school will continue Focus on Your Future, an assertion supported by the two decades the experience has already spanned.
