On Dec. 15, Star Wars: The Last Jedi will hit the movie theaters for its premiere. It is the second film in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, following “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” which premiered in 2015. Star Wars: The Last Jedi was produced by Lucasfilm, the company of George Lucas, who has produced all nine of the Star Wars episodes. The film is also written and directed by Rian Johnson.

The new episode of the Star War series is about how the main character, Rey, develops her newly discovered abilities with the guidance of Luke Skywalker while the Resistance prepares to do battle with the First Order.

The main actors present are Daisy Ridley(Rey), Mark Hamill(Luke Skywalker), Carrie Fisher(Leia Organa), John Boyega(Finn), and Adam Driver(Kylo Ren). All of these actors were present in the previous episode, “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”, as the film takes place directly after the previous events.

Many students at the high school have watched the previous episodes of the series and are looking forward to the new release on December 15th. Junior J.T. Mitchell is ready for the new episode to be finally released after months of waiting.

“I am very excited,” Mitchell said. “I have watched all of the other Star Wars movies before so I am hoping this will be as good.”

The trailer that was posted on Youtube about two months ago has gained a lot of attention as it currently has 40 million views. It has lead to many different theories and speculations of what could possibly occur during the new release.

“After watching the trailer and seeing Luke Skywalker and Kylo Ren return I am wondering what might happen between the two. And in the trailer I can’t tell if Kylo is on the bad or good side,” Mitchell said. “I think [Kylo and Rey] will fight it out like they did before [in the previous episode], but maybe they will join forces. I don’t know though, I’m just guessing based off the trailer.”

Star Wars: The Last Jedi will be available to the public beginning on Friday, December 15th. The film will be available at local theaters such as the AMC Lennox Town Center and Cinemax Movies 12 located near Carriage place.

“If I can somehow get tickets with my friends I will try to watch it the day it is released, Mitchell said. “If not I will definitely watch it sometime close to that day or during winter break.”

Students at the high school will be busy during the time of release due to midterms, but the students will have time over winter break to watch the film if they wish.
