In 1917 Starbucks first started as a small coffee shop located in Pike Place Market of Seattle Washington. Starbucks has since grown into a multinational corporation with 27,339 shops around the world. America has been the starting point of Starbucks’ success and continues to be with Starbucks’ revenue exceeding 21 billion in US dollars in 2016.
As the industry created a name for itself so has the fanbase that has grown steadily around it. Fans started ‘secret menus’ outside of Starbucks’ original drink options; their own drink combinations from the various syrups and toppings that Starbucks has to offer.
“In addition to the beverage options listed on our menu boards, there are more than 170,000 ways baristas can customize beverages at Starbucks, including selecting from a variety of milks, syrups, coffee/espresso options, and toppings. This high level of personalization allows our customers to tailor their drink to match their personal taste preferences,” Starbucks’ media relations said.
Websites and social media sites have appeared advertising different combinations of drinks labeled with titles such as the Snowball Frapuccino, Warm Sugar Cookie and Holiday Apple Spice.
However if customers want to order off of the secret menu there are a few things they have to keep in mind.
“Most of the employees don’t know the recipes to every drink on the secret menu, or at all. So it’s really helpful and nice when people just list the syrups or inclusions they want in a drink,” Starbucks barista, senior Jules Biever said.
