Summertime is an opportunity for high schoolers to escape from the pressures of school and for some an opportunity to find a job that will prepare them for a future career. There are several different places hiring high schoolers in Upper Arlington whether it be a counselor at a summer camp or an intern for NASA.
Laffalot Summer Camp Counselor
Where: Worthington Rec Center
When: June 4 – 8 and Aug. 6 – 10, from 9 a.m – 2 p.m.
Requirements: Must be 15 years old or older
Details: Applicants will be around children with ages ranging from six to 12. Each counselor will have eight to ten campers throughout each day of camp. The activities counselors assist with include floor hockey, volleyball, kickball, dodgeball, and more.
NASA Intern
Where: NASA Glenn Research Center
When: June 11 – Aug. 3, Monday – Friday, forty hours per week.
Requirements: Must be a U.S. citizen and a permanent resident of Ohio. Also be 16 years old on or before the internship begins. Have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA
Details: According to NASA“The GRC High School Internship Project engages students with an intensive internship experience in a research and development environment, while under the guidance of a GRC scientist, engineer, technician, or administrative professional who serves as the student’s mentor.”
Lifeguard or Pool Office Worker
Where: Tremont pool
When: Have to work up to 40 hours a week.
Requirements: All lifeguards must complete a swimming and lifeguard proficiency test prior to the opening of swimming season. Lifeguarding classes are offered at the high school as P.E. credit Must go through a drug screening.
