n a Wednesday afternoon early last month, directors of the Upper Arlington Civic Association (UACA) descended upon UAHS to announce this year’s winner of the famous Golden Apple award: intervention specialist Doug Wilson.
The UACA directors entered the room while Wilson was co-teaching a class. Wilson did not realize he had won the award until his family entered the classroom.
“Once I saw my kids come in, I put the pieces together,” Wilson said.
Also present were UAHS and district administrators, including principal Andrew Theado.
“Mr. Wilson is very deserving of this award,” Theado said. “He is a tremendous teacher, and an advocate for students, [and he] bends over backwards to support them.”
Wilson began this year dealing with American history and physical science after having previously been a math intervention specialist.
“I was truly overwhelmed and shocked,” Wilson said. “I’m very grateful and thankful.”
